Stop 5- 240kms
We have clocked around 3000kms in the trip so far...
After much studying of our 'Camps 6' book which has all the low cost and free stops in Australia, I decided that Carmila Beach had a pretty good review..they were not wrong...We were only going to do an overnight stop then power on to somewhere near Mackay, but as it was one of the nicest stops so far...we stayed a another night... it was a little windy on the last day, but that is what you get for ABSOLUTE beachfront! :-)
The beach was pretty packed but we came across prime real estate right on the edge of the dunes, whoever had been there before us had chopped up the track a little but we thought we would give it a go....
thought we would give it ago without dropping the type pressures...mmmmm Magnum didnt seem to mind the sand but PI decided the dig in and bogged them both! |
once the tyres were down to 20psi, gave it another go...slightly wider line and PI tracked beautifully! |
too easy! ;-) |
our awesome pop up ensuite..thanks ann & mick xx |
By the time we had cracked our first/second drink..the water was gone... oh well will have to sit here and enjoy the view and the sunshine.... met a lovely couple on the beach who gave us a name and a number for some work picking limes on the Atherton Tablelands, so if we make it that far will will have a little work for a month or so...
Up early the next day to take some sunrise photos...
We went for a walk all the way out the meet the water which was a couple of hundred metres away on low tide walking through very soft sand/silt, past our ankles in solid silt.. and then to visit Flaggy Rock Tourist Stop..famous for great homemade pies, where they were setting up for Mud, Music and Mahem...
\Would have been fun to stay but it wasnt for another couple of days... so back to the camp to relax..
At Carmila we were running on solar and batteries which was worked well and our little can inverter seems to be doing the trick for both laptop and camera charging... though it does suck the juice!
Ate dinner by the fire in our brasier (thanks gary!) then an early night as it was a little chilly!
As were were leaving Carmila, diesel was the cheapest we had seen at 148.9 and line up out on the road, so we filled up and topped up the jerry cans..... 10km further down the road it was 147.9! oh well!
We also realised that our baby compressor is not suitable to fill up 4x4 tyres unless you have all day to do it...so next on the shopping list is a bigger compressor...
Hey Shez & George, Sounds as if you are having a great time discovering the B I G things. Good that you might be able to get some work when you get further on. Grandad went walkabout at about 4 this morning (Thursday) and after calling the police and then the ambos Steven found him down past the mulcher. He had fallen over and couldn't get up. He is a bit sore but he doesn't remember anything about it. Rod is arranging to have locks fitted to our doors so that he can't get out. Take care. Love Nan x
